Astrolabe 2014 Malbec – Cahors rouge
Lapérouse was a famous admiral, fascinated about the discovery of new territories. He sailed the seas and oceans on a ship dubbed “Astrolabe”.
Passionate about the discovery of new sensorial territories, Les Vignerons d’Ovalie have established a research and development program, dedicated to the study of historic grapes varieties, found only on the land of its growers. The result of this research led in turn to the creation of the “Astrolabe” brand in homage to this legendary navigator.
TERROIR : Ancient alluvions (Lot Mindel terraces and ancient Riss alluvial deposits – graves).
GRAPE VARIETY : Malbec 100 %.
VITICULTURE : Average age of vines 35 years, density 4 500 vines/ha, yield 40 hl/ha, mechanical harvest.
VINIFICATION : Fermentation at 28°C, 25 days maceration. Traditional maturation 18 months in new oak barrels.

TASTING NOTES : Deep purple color, nuanced by black.
Intense, smoky, black berry aromas of black currant and blue berry, spicy earl grey, pepper and vanilla, violet and finally notes of cocoa and licorice. Ample and fresh on the palate, fruity/spicy, peppery, harmoniously structured with smooth tannins and an empyreumatic and licorice finish.
FOOD PAIRING : liver of veal and truffle-flavored mashed potatoes, roast veal with Chinese artichoke, lamb cutlets.

It is the leading supplier of red and rosé wines from the Southwest of France.
